Why Choose a Malvern Ludlow Shed?
Choice of Timber Cladding
Choose between 12mm deal (pine), 12mm pressure treated deal (pine), cedar, 19mm deal (pine) or 19mm pressure treated deal (pine). The 12mm and 19mm deal are pre-treated with a water based preservative inside and out before it leaves the factory. The 12mm and 19mm pressure treated deal has a long-lasting treatment forced deep inside the timber giving the timber an attractive green hue which compliments gardens well. The Western Red Cedar is a beautiful and versatile timber which produces its own natural oils and preservatives making it a durable and rot-resistant species of timber, perfect for a garden shed.

12mm Deal (Pine) cladding for Ludlow sheds
This picture illustrates the planed, tongued and grooved Deal ( pine ) cladding generally used on our Ludlow sheds.
This is treated with a wash of quality wood preserver both inside and out before it leaves the factory. This ensures that the treatment reaches into the end grain and between the tongued and grooved sections.
19mm Deal ( Pine ) cladding for Ludlow Sheds
Our standard cladding on Ludlow sheds is 12mm deal ( pine ). This is treated with a wash of quality wood preserver both inside and out before it leaves the factory. Illustrated here is the 19mm thick cladding option. Some customers prefer this as the shed walls are considerably thicker and allow some items to be mounted on the boards.
In very windy locations it also makes what is already a very sturdy building heavier and less prone to damage.
Pressure treated construction for Ludlow sheds
Pressure treatment is literally that : all components of the building are placed in a large pressurised cylinder which forces the preservative deep into the timber. The formulation of the preservative gives the pressure treated heavy duty sheds their green / yellow hue which complements so many gardens.
Good looks and an extended lifetime are the main benefits of choosing pressure treated construction.
Ridge Height and Planning Permission
Planning restrictions in England and Wales require garden sheds to be under 2.5m in height if they are within 2m of the boundary - all of our Ludlow sheds (including the 10ft and 12ft gable models) meet this requirement.
Planning permission may occasionally be required if you are in a conservation area, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) or live in a listed building. In these instances you will need to check with your local authority
Cedar cladding for Ludlow sheds
This picture illustrates the cedar cladding used on a large proportion of our Ludlow Heavy Duty sheds. Cedar is known for its long life and good looks. It has its own natural oils in the timber which makes it very resistant to rot. Despite this we still pre-treat your Ludlow shed with a wash of quality wood preserver before it leaves the factory thus ensuring it gets off to a great start in life !
Ludlow Heavy Duty shed door
This picture illustrates the strength of a Ludlow Heavy Duty shed door. Fully framed, ledged and braced, this 35" width door will not go out of square! It has a built-in 3 lever mortice lock for security.
Pictured here on a Heavy Duty Apex shed, the door is identical on the Ludlow Heavy Duty Sheds.
Stable door for Ludlow Heavy Duty sheds
This is a popular option with our Ludlow Heavy Duty sheds.
My favourite reason for choosing this option was a parent who wanted to keep his small children out while he used power tools in the shed... what a good idea !
Heavy Duty shed floors
This photo may look a little boring but it illustrates a couple of important points. Firstly, the floors in our Ludlow heavy duty sheds are made from real timber rather than from chipboard or other board products. Real timber lasts better and is more resistant to damp than any board products commonly used in other sheds. Secondly, you can see that the boards are nailed to the floor joists at 12 inch centres making these floors exceptionally strong. Thirdly, the floor is treated with a good quality preservative before it leaves the factory ensuring that it gives many years service ... after all, you can't get at the underside of the floor to re-treat it once installed !
Ludlow shed door furniture
Black japanned door handles and hinges in antique style are standard fittings with our Ludlow sheds.
Also well illustrated in this picture is the 3 lever mortice lock.
Ludlow Heavy Duty shed framing
Ludlow sheds have 2inch x 2inch framing throughout. This is exceptionally strong and gives structural rigidity to the whole building making it resistant to bad weather and ensuring many years of trouble free use.
The picture shows where the sides meet the roof ... which is constructed with real timber boarding rather than with chipboard or other board products sometimes used by other manufacturers.
Pressure Treated Floor Bearers
If you are a novice when it comes to sheds then this picture is for you !
Our shed floors are constructed with floor joists which are deal (pine). These can be seen under the floor running down the length of this shed. If they are set directly onto your base they will deteriorate after a few years as water penetrates into the timber. By choosing a set of pressure treated floor bearers ( the timber running side to side in this picture ) you will create an air gap which keeps the floor joists dry and therefore extends the life of your shed significantly. These bearers will last a lifetime as the preservative is forced into the timber under pressure. This is the same process used for fenceposts and suchlike. We highly recommend the purchase of bearers with your shed.
24" wide Workbench for Ludlow
This is the sturdy 24" wide workbench which is available to fit 8ft wide sheds and above. It stands on a series of timber H frames and provides an ideal surface for tools or just storage.
Shown here in the Heavy Duty Apex range but equally at home in the Ludlow.
Black felt
Black has been added to Red and Green to allow you to choose the mineralised roof felt colour that best fits your location.
Shed shelves
We offer a range of different length shelves, 9" wide, for all of our Malvern sheds.

We always give good notice of our arrival date allowing you to be sure it is the right time for you. We always appreciate any helpful information regarding access to your pre-prepared base area, plus any details you may need to share with us about reaching you - so that the delivery process can run as smoothly as possible.
Our Malvern Traditional Sheds all come with optional installation. If you are thinking about having your garden shed installed by our skilled team of fitters, please be aware that you will need to have a good, strong, level base, pre-prepared prior to your delivery date. We would normally recommend a base constructed from either slabs, concrete or heavy duty decking. We will always confirm these details with you at point of order and we will provide you with base plans if needed. These measures ensure that no detail is left out - ensuring that your garden shed will be both delivered and installed without any inconvenience.
Our delivery times can vary from season to season, but typically, you should expect to receive your building around 3-4 weeks from when you order. All of our buildings are made to order, so during the busy spring to summer seasons, this may increase to 6-10 weeks dependant on the building that you have purchased. Please feel free to contact us on 0800 999 0123 to check our current delivery times.
