The Malvern Heavy Duty Apex shed is the perfect shed for security and durability. Featuring heavy duty shed framework, joinery-made opening and fixed windows, a 3-lever mortice lockable door and much more - The Malvern Heavy Duty Apex is ideal to be used as a workshop or craftroom! Most other sheds are constructed with only price in mind, which means they use the cheapest timber available, including feather edge boards, chipboard, flaxboard and so on. They are often hand coated with a cheap preservative on the outside only. The Malvern range come with tongue and groove timber (available in 5 different options), treated and finished to the highest standard. With an enormous amount of customisation options, you can really make this building your own!
At GBC, we are continuously striving to improve our products, methods and materials, which means we may change the specification of a product or range from time to time, but we will not make any significant changes without your agreement
Please take a look at our photo gallery which will show you various sizes of this building along with pictures of its construction and optional items.
Choice of Timber Cladding
Choose between 12mm deal (pine), 12mm pressure treated deal (pine), cedar, 19mm deal (pine) or 19mm pressure treated deal (pine). The 12mm and 19mm deal are pre-treated with a water based preservative inside and out before it leaves the factory. The 12mm and 19mm pressure treated deal has a long-lasting treatment forced deep inside the timber giving the timber an attractive green hue which compliments gardens well. The Western Red Cedar is a beautiful and versatile timber which produces its own natural oils and preservatives making it a durable and rot-resistant species of timber, perfect for a garden shed.
The Malvern Heavy Duty range buildings are supplied as standard with a green, red or black colour felt roof.

A timber workbench that runs the length of your heavy duty shed. A 15inch wide workbench is fitted to the 4ft, 5ft and 6ft wide sheds and a 24inch wide workbench is fitted to the 8ft, 10ft and 12ft wide sheds.

This superb cedar shed is from the Malvern Heavy Duty Shed range. Every aspect of its design has been carefully developed during the 30 years that Malvern have been producing garden sheds. Other photos in this gallery show the detail of the features that make a Malvern Heavy Duty shed the best value for money available.
Constructed with Western Red Cedar cladding this Heavy Duty 6ft x 4ft Apex shed is in a class of its own.
Pictured with the optional slatted cedar roof, this building will give many years of trouble free service.
Whilst we do occassionally sell these buildings for DIY fitting, the vast majority of our customers opt for the manufacturers' own fitters to undertake the installation of their shed.
This picture illustrates a new addition to the range known as Onduline roof sheeting.
This is an extremely reliable roofing and waterproofing system used in all sorts of buildings such as individual houses, commercial and industrial buildings, as well as on our sheds!
It's a lightweight, extremely durable eco material which is laid over the normal tongued and grooved roof giving maximum protection against all kinds of weather.
This 8ft x 6ft Malvern Heavy Duty shed is constructed throughout with pressure treated timber. The pressure treatment extends the life of the building considerably and also gives it its attractive green/yellow hue. The door on this model is hung with hinges on the left for ease of access in this location.
This picture of a 6ft x 4ft Malvern Heavy Duty Apex Shed constructed in Deal is shown to illustrate the option of a cedar slatted roof. The slatted roof is laid on top of the felt which makes the building even more watertight, more attractive, and extends the life of the felt roof as it is not subject to weathering. The picture also illustrates the 3 antique style hinges used on all heavy duty shed doors.
Each Heavy Duty shed can be professionally installed by Malvern's own teams of skilled fitters on the same day as delivery is made. Make sure to choose installation for a hassle free and quick installation.
This 12ft x 8ft Malvern Heavy Duty Apex Shed is shown on a bright winter's day. Top hung, joinery made windows glazed with toughened safety glass are included as standard (numbers and location depend upon length). Green mineralised felt is used on the roof unless you choose the slatted roof option ( See pictures of 8ft x 6ft Pressure treated shed and 6ft x 4ft Deal shed.
In common with the picture of the 8ft x 6ft pressure treated shed, this 12ft x 8ft model is shown with the pressure treated overlap roof which is laid over the normal roofing felt. Also of note in this picture are the double doors which are an option on all Heavy Duty Apex Sheds 8ft wide and over.
Planning restrictions in England and Wales require garden sheds to be under 2.5m in height if they are within 2m of the boundary.
Our Heavy Duty sheds all meet this requirement.
Planning permission may occasionally be required if you are in a conservation area, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty ( AONB ) or live in a listed building. In these instances you will need to check with your local authority.
Pressure treatment is literally that : all components of the building are placed in a large pressurised cylinder which forces the preservative deep into the timber. The formulation of the preservative gives the pressure treated heavy duty sheds their green / yellow hue which complements so many gardens.
Good looks and an extended lifetime are the main benefits of choosing pressure treated construction.
Our standard cladding on Heavy Duty sheds is 12mm deal (pine). This is treated with a wash of quality wood preserver both inside and out before it leaves the factory.
Illustrated here is the 19mm thick cladding option. Some customers prefer this as the shed walls are considerably thicker and allow some items to be mounted on the boards. In very windy locations it also makes what is already a very sturdy building heavier and less prone to damage.
This picture illustrates the cedar cladding used on a large proportion of our Heavy Duty sheds. Cedar is known for its long life and good looks. It has its own natural oils in the timber which makes it very resistant to rot. Despite this we still pre-treat your Heavy Duty shed with a wash of quality wood preserver before it leaves the factory thus ensuring it gets off to a great start in life !
This picture illustrates the strength of a Malvern Heavy Duty shed door. Fully framed, ledged and braced, this 35" width door will not go out of square! It has a built-in 3 lever mortice lock for security.
For additional security please see pictures below of our 'security pack' option.
( Door width on the 4ft gable Apex model is 0.66m )
This drip cill over the door is a good example of the attention to detail that characterise Malvern Heavy Duty sheds.
Preventing water running down the cladding and into the end grain at the top of the door ensures it does not swell and stick as you find with many other manufacturers' shed doors. It also reduces the possibility of water being blown across the top of the door and into the shed during stormy weather.
Look carefully at this picture and you will see the quality of manufacture of these windows from one of our Heavy Duty sheds.
Each window is pre-glazed at the factory. The glass in this particular window is kite marked as it is glazed with toughened safety glass which is standard with all Heavy Duty Malvern Sheds.
Also illustrated are the casement stays which enable the window to be pegged open to suit you.
This photo may look a little boring but it illustrates a couple of important points. Firstly, the floors in our heavy duty sheds are made from real timber rather than from chipboard or other board products. Real timber lasts better and is more resistant to damp than any board products commonly used in other sheds. Secondly, you can see that the boards are nailed to the floor joists at 12 inch centres making these floors exceptionally strong. Thirdly, the floor is treated with a good quality preservative before it leaves the factory ensuring that it gives many years service ... after all, you can't get at the underside of the floor to re-treat it once installed !
Illustrated here is the 15inch wide workbench available as an option with Malvern Heavy Duty sheds.
8ft, 10ft and 12ft wide buildings have a 24 inch wide workbench.
Sturdily built in preservative treated timber, the workbench allows you to maximise the use of your shed from day one !
Malvern Heavy Duty sheds have 2inch x 2inch framing throughout. This is exceptionally strong and gives structural rigidity to the whole building making it resistant to bad weather and ensuring many years of trouble free use.
The picture shows where the sides meet the roof ... which is constructed with real timber boarding rather than with chipboard or other board products sometimes used by other manufacturers.
All Malvern Heavy Duty sheds have a three lever mortice lock fitted as standard. For additional security you may choose our Security Pack.
This includes a Padlock Protector ( which is bolted into place ), a padlock, and hinges which have a dome bolt through the centre of each section of the hinge.
If you are a novice when it comes to sheds then this picture is for you !
Our shed floors are constructed with floor joists which are deal (pine). These can be seen under the floor running down the length of this shed. If they are set directly onto your base they will deteriorate after a few years as water penetrates into the timber. By choosing a set of pressure treated floor bearers ( the timber running side to side in this picture ) you will create an air gap which keeps the floor joists dry and therefore extends the life of your shed significantly. These bearers will last a lifetime as the preservative is forced into the timber under pressure. This is the same process used for fenceposts and suchlike. We highly recommend the purchase of bearers with your shed.
First, this ISN'T one of our sheds !
If you ask any of our staff about our sheds and what distinguishes them from the cheap chain store and internet offerings, they will tell you about the thickness of the boards, the quality of the joinery, and most likely the construction of the roofs as we use only tongued and grooved, treated timber in our roofs. If the roofing felt gets blown away in severe storm conditions the roof boards won't deteriorate just so long as you get a new set of felt attached within a month or two, We'll also advise you against any shed that has chipboard or flakeboard as a roofing material and here's why ! Although the sides of this old building might last a good few years more, the roof has completely disintegrated.
