Choice of Timber Cladding
Cladding on the Harpford Barn shed is available in a choice of 12mm deal shiplap, 18mm premier deal shiplap, 15mm deal Loglap or 15mm Tanalised E deal. The 12mm deal, 18mm premier deal shiplap and 15mm deal Loglap are pre-treated with a high quality, water-based wood preserver inside and out. The 15mm Tanalised E deal has a reputation for longevity, since the boards are placed in a pressure vessel and the preservative is forced deeper into the timber. The cladding has a green/yellow colour which is well liked but our recommendation is to re-treat it shortly after installation, and then annually afterwards - just as with the other cladding options to keep it in tip-top condition.
The Harpford Barn shed is supplied as standard with a Green or Red colour mineral felt.
A practical high-rise rear shelf comes as standard providing useful over-head storage and maximising floor space.

This is the 6ft width Harpford Barn which features a single, fully framed door with lock and key. The building shown here is constructed in tanalised timber which not only looks attractive with its green/yellow hue, but also extends the life of the building by ensuring that the preservative penetrates deep into the timber.
Other timber choices and sizes are available.

The Harpford Barn is available in 2 widths, 1.8m ( 6ft ) and 2.4m ( 8ft ) and lengths up to 16ft..

This is a picture of one of our display models taken on a miserable winter's day, so I've cut out the background and hey presto it is a great illustration of this superb and stylish building !
The opening window, double doors, and dutch style roof are all standard features.
The timber cladding on this particular building is our 15mm tanalised option.
We display this building at many of our sites up and down the country so please check out the 'where can I see one' section at the foot of this page.
One of 4 timber choices, the Deal ( pine ) cladding used on this building is kiln dried then treated with a quality wood preservative prior to delivery. Please ask our staff about subsequent wood care.
Other cladding choices are 18mm premium Deal, 15mm Tanalised, or loglap. These are illustrated elsewhere in this gallery.
Detail here shows the fully framed ledged and braced doors with mortice lock. The optional opening Georgian window is also illustrated.
This is the standard external tongued and grooved cladding used on all of our Fort sheds, summerhouses and playhouses. The finished thickness after machining is 12mm. It is treated with a good quality preservative prior to leaving the factory but we do recommend that you re-coat within a few months and preferably in the late autumn each year. You can purchase the appropriate timber treatment from us if you wish.
If you wish, you can upgrade to 15mm thick tanalised external cladding. Tanalised, or pressure treated timber, has a reputation for longevity since the boards are placed in a pressure vessel and the preservative is forced deeper into the timber. The cladding has a green/yellow colour which is well liked but our recommendation is to re-treat it shortly after installation, and then annually afterwards just as with the other cladding options to keep it in tip-top condition.
Tanalised buildings include tanalised floors, roofs, doors, windows, and framing... in other words the whole building !
The picture shows the optional loglap cladding available with any of our Fort Original buildings. 15mm is measured at the widest point of the tongued and grooved board. The internal face is the normal smooth face you get on our standard cladding. This is an a cladding that is chosen predominantly for its looks rather than any technical advantage. After care is the same as for our other cladding options described here.
Shown here on one of our summerhouses, this building has been painted with 'swiss blue' and white. If you choose a paint finish then you can have a maximum of two colours, generally used so that the highlights are one colour and the main body of the building another.
The paint is applied at the factory after the building has been preservative treated and therefore requires a couple of extra weeks on top of the normal delivery time. This means that the internal finish is the normal preservative colour rather than the external colour.
With 12 colours to choose from the possibilities are ( almost ) endless !
All of our Fort Original buildings are fitted with a sturdy tongued and grooved floor as you would expect from buildings of this quality ( rather than chipboard or fibre board ).
For additional strength you can upgrade to a heavy duty floor ( pictured on the LH ) which has 18mm thick floorboards on 45mm x 45mm joists. The standard floor has 12mm floorboards on 45mm x 30mm joists.
This is a useful security enhancement if you are concerned about the security of your building.
Each of the 3 hinges has a number of its screws replacing with bolts which are tightened from the inside. A padlock protector is fitted which protects the hasp of the padlock from hack saw attack !

Our Fort Original Sheds all come with optional installation. If you are thinking about having your garden shed installed by our skilled team of fitters, please be aware that you will need to have a good, strong, level base, pre-prepared prior to your delivery date. We would normally recommend a base constructed from either slabs, concrete or heavy duty decking. These measures ensure that no detail is left out - ensuring that your garden shed will be both delivered and installed without any inconvenience.
