Ideal for the complete gardener, the propagation house provides a toughened glass front section to use as a normal greenhouse and a rear partitioned section with 6mm twin wall polycarbonate glazing to use as a propagation area.
The 6mm polycarbonate in the rear section retains heat giving the perfect environment to propagate your seeds, plant cuttings and over winter plants. This is held in place using a mastic seal to prevent any wind damage.
The glass and polycarbonate are secured in place using a bar capping system to ensure that both are secure and will stay in place.
Each propagation house comes complete with double doors in both the front and partition with low thresholds for ease of access. An additional roof vent, automatic opener and louvre vent provide an excellent circulation of air and full length staging and shelving will give you ample space to work and store away tools and pots.
This is a really special building for keen growers with a range of features that make it the perfect way to create a highly productive greenhouse.
The rear 4ft section is double glazed with 6mm polycarbonate glazing... but unlike the cheap polycarbonate greenhouses you sometimes see for sale, this is bedded on a mastic seal and capped externally to prevent wind damage. Read more about this please in one of the pictures below. This double glazed section is ideal to start seedlings off in the spring or overwinter tender plants and is much cheaper to heat and maintain at a constant temperature.
The front section is glazed with toughened safety glass so you can harden off potted-on seedlings and grow all the normal summer crops that you expect.
Staging, shelving, additional roof ventilation, rainwater pipes and a louvre window are all included within the package.
The external bar capping can be a choice of six colours and holds the glazing firmly in place as well as adding a touch of colour to the greenhouse. Shown here with white bar capping.
Altogether a great idea.
Staging and shelving
Integral staging and shelving are provided as part of the Propagation House package. These are supported on cantilever brackets which means there are no legs to get in the way at floor level making the greenhouse easier to sweep out and creating more storage space beneath the staging.
Glazing and bar capping
Here you see the transition from the front toughened glass section to the rear polycarbonate. The white bar capping is screwed in place and by creating a continuous seal against the glazing it makes the greenhouse much more secure than conventional glazing which uses spring clips. In particular the polycarbonate is firmly held in place on mastic seals which create a draught proof seal and prevent the polycarbonate being blown out in moderate winds which is common with cheap polycarbonate glazed greenhouses.
Inside the partition area
This shot shows the inside of the partition area which is provided with staging and shelving on one side.
The polycarbonate section is 4ft ( 2 panels )deep at the rear of the greenhouse with a double door polycarbonate glazed partition to separate it from the front section.
You can change the position of the partition wall and bring it forward in 2ft increments for a small additional charge.
5 Blade Louvre Window
A five blade louvre window is included with every Propagation House as standard, assuring that you can provide low level ventilation to remove stale air from the bottom of your greenhouse when used in conjunction with the roof vents. Toughened safety glass is an essential feature of these louvres. Shown here in green, the louvre is colour matched to the greenhouse.
Shown here too is an optional automatic louvre opener which uses a hydraulic cylinder to open the blades as the temperature inside rises.
Double doors
The Propagation House has full height double entrance doors so you can get in with a wheelbarrow or wheelchair and then the same again with the partition area which has a slightly lower entry height.
Each set of doors has a key lock.
Low entry threshold
There's no plinth to step over as you enter the Propagation House which makes access easy for chairs or barrows. The rest of the greenhouse has a low aluminium plinth which helps protect the glass from damge and dirt !
Partition door staging cut out
This is a technical picture to illustrate how the staging needs to be set out where it adjoins the partition in order to allow the rear door to slide. This is one for the Greenhouse Fitter, whether that's you as a DIY project or one of the number of skilled contractors available through GBC.
Door lock
The Propagation House doors are fitted with a key operated lock.
You'll see that even the partition door in the background has a lock too.
Roof vents and autovent
Good ventilation is very important in any greenhouse.
Our product details will advise you of the number of vents included as standard with your Propagation House, one of which will have a Bayliss XL autovent provided. This autovent is a proven winner and helps regulate the temperature by opening as the temperature rises in the sunshine.
For obvious reasons we recommend fitting it in the front section of the Propagation House ( in the rear it will let out all that lovely warm air that your seedlings are enjoying ! )
Rainwater pipes and outlets
Rainwater pipes for each side are provided with the Propagation House. These are clipped onto the corner bars at the front or the rear depending which end is most convenient for you. There's a stop end for the opposite end of the gutter.
If you choose to buy a barrel the pipes are easy to cut off at an appropriate length and the 45 degree bend provided can be repositioned accordingly.
Berry colour
One of the newer colours to enter the range is 'Berry' as pictured here.
It's a striking colour which makes a real impact in the garden. Take a look at our 'Stafford' greenhouse page to see how it looks on an entire greenhouse !
