Alton Cedar Greenhouses

Nobody has more experience of greenhouses or the needs of greenhouse gardeners, than Alton. The first Alton Greenhouses specially designed for the domestic market were launched back almost 100 years ago in 1921 by Alton. They have witnessed the greenhouses develop into the superb products they are today. The brand name “Alton” is synonymous with quality and it is the go-to greenhouse for all experience greenhouse gardeners.

Alton pioneered the Cedar Greenhouses market and this choice of timber construction has many benefits. Cedar is a very slow and straight growing timber, this results in little to no knots appearing the grain. Coupled with its natural red colour, makes Cedar a very attractive timber in appearance - with Alton using the finest clear grade cedar for their greenhouses. Cedar has its own natural oils, this makes the timber very resistant to rot and the scent of the oils also deters greenhouse pests, whilst from your perspective – giving your greenhouse a wonderful scent.

Alton have regularly recognised that there are always improvements to be made and varied styles to explore. That’s why in 2013, Alton launched their ‘Evolution’ range. A hybrid greenhouse using their traditional Cedar framing, but utilising the benefits of a powder coated aluminium base plinth and powder coated aluminium door rails. The advances in machinery and accuracy in CNC milling allowed Alton to produce a range of greenhouses that are completely kit form. Mortice and tenon joins and accurately milled rebates allow for an easy assembly. Initially the range just had Freestanding greenhouses for sale, but this has since grown to incorporate lean-to versions and a Victorian range, using the same principles.

GBC are one of Britain's foremost suppliers of domestic greenhouses with a reputation built up over thirty years and experienced staff at each of our branches to help you make your decision. Whether it’s small greenhouses, lean-to greenhouses or our collection of large greenhouses - we sell hundreds of units and we wouldn't be able to do that unless the buildings we sell offer quality and value for money.
