Malvern Stanford Utility Shed
Product Details
The Stanford Utility Shed is a garden building that can be customised to fit your requirements!
Based on the Heavy Duty shed construction method, this building uses 2in x 2in framing throughout to ensure a solid structure. A 20mm pressure treated tongue and groove floor ensures that the floor will not rot and the 20mm thickness means that the structure will support heavy items stored inside. The Deal or Cedar models are made with tongue and grrove boarding throughout - there is no plywood/chipboard used anywhere in this building!
The external cladding of the Standford Utility Shed is available in either a Medium Oak stained finish (12mm Deal, 20mm Deal or 12mm Cedar) or Presssure Treated 23mm Barnstyle cladding. To get the full idea of how customisable this building is, please take a look at our image gallery (link at top of page) which has examples of each style of building.
An 18inch roof overhang adds style and function - keeping the worst of the rain away from the door. The doors are fitted with black antique ironmongery, for a strong and elegant finish. As standard, the Stanford shed has a 38kg green mineral felt roof, laid on top of a tongue and groove structure. Optional upgrades to the roof include Felt Tiles, Pressure Treated Slatted Timber, Cedar Slatted Timber or even Cedar Shingles.
All windows are lockable, fitted with toughened safety glass as standard and security screws are supplied in all hinges - increasing your security. If you were looking to use this building all year round, then lining and insulation can be added as on optional extra. To customise this building even more, you can choose an optional paint finish, a log store to the side of the building (with overhanging roof), a heavy-duty workbench or even Cottage style windows.
A lower pitch roof can also be supplied as a no-cost option. This will ensure that your building is under 2.5m in height.

Image Gallery
Stanford 10ft x 6ft wide
One of the smallest sizes of our Stanford shed, 10ft x 6ft.
This building is finished in a Medium Oak stain on pine external cladding. The quality of the finish needs to be seen first hand but other pictures on this page will give you some idea of how good this looks close up.
The pictured building demonstrates the black felt tiled roof option ( also available in green or red ). Other roof coverings available are cedar shingles, cedar overlap boards, or pressure treated overlap boards.
External cladding can be pine ( as pictured ) , 20mm thick pine, pressure treated, or cedar.
Installation by our factory's own skilled fitters is available.
Toughened safety glass is standard
Stanford 14ft x 10ft wide
This picture shows the Medium Oak finished pine cladding on a 14ft x 10ft Stanford shed.
Note the generous sized double doors which are an option.
You can specify this building in a wide choice of cladding options, with several different roof styles and in a choice of colours.
This building is our 'low height' version ... the roof apexis less than 2.5m in height.
Stanford 10ft x 8ft wide
Here's a very different version of the Stanford proving that it's truly a building you can specify exactly as you require.
In this instance we've painted the barnstyle cladding in black and fitted 'Cottage style windows' which are painted white in contrast.
The door has been moved from the gable end to the side and as a consequence we've removed the normal roof overhang which you'll see in the other pictures.
The roof is finished with Canadian Cedar shingles which are exceptionally durable and long lasting apart from being very attractive !
Please let us know how you want your shed to look ... the Stanford can generally built to meet your exact needs.
Stanford 10ft x 8ft
Here's another different version of the painted Stanford, this time in 'Malvern Green', our most popular colour; it's one of 12 countryside colours available for the Stanford. The Cottage style windows are the same colour although they could be specified in a contrasting colour if preferred.
The door has been moved from the gable end to the side and as a consequence we've removed the normal roof overhang which you'll see in the other pictures.
The roof is finished with the optional Canadian Cedar shingles.
Stanford 12ft x 10ft wide
The Stanford in this picture is 10ft wide at the gable end and has double doors which latch back with the hooks provided. A run of windows down one side give good ventilation and the glass is toughened for safety and security.
This building has the optional pressure treated slatted roof which looks good and protects the roof even in the most severe weather.
The main construction of this building is with our Barnstyle cladding, a 23mm thick pressure treated timber which overlaps on the outside but gives a smooth weathertight finish on the inside.
Stanford 14ft x 8ft wide
This is an innovative and very useful version of our Stanford shed.
The main building is constructed in this instance with pressure treated barnstyle cladding. It is fitted with double doors so the customer can park their sit-on mower inside. The roof is also pressure treated ... the slatted roof is laid over a felted roof to make doubly sure that it is absolutely watertight.
The principal feature not displayed elsewhere on this page is the side verandah which is handy for storing logs, garden furniture, bikes ... anything really that needs to be undercover !
Stanford Shed 14ft x 8ft wide
Another 14 x 8 Pressure treated building featuring a double door and the pressure treated overlap roof.
Joinery-made windows with toughened safety glass are fitted all the way down one side.
Medium Oak finish
We supply the Stanford shed in a range of 12 countryside colours or with a Medium Oak stain finish. Take a look at our Cottage Summerhouse pages on this website which will show you many of the colour choices available.
Pictured here is the Medium Oak stain on our pine cladding... it has a lustrous sheen and preserves and protects the timber for many years.
Barnstyle 23mm pressure treated cladding
Pressure treatment is literally that : all components of the building are placed in a large pressurised cylinder which forces the preservative deep into the timber. The formulation of the preservative gives the pressure treated Stanford sheds their green / yellow hue which complements so many gardens. The barnstyle cladding is of heavy duty 23mm timber that locks together to create a smooth finish on the interior. Good looks and an extended lifetime are the main benefits of choosing pressure treated cladding.
Secure locking
The Stanford Shed is provided with a secure 3 lever lock and 'antique' style handles and hinges.
Double doors ( from inside )
This shot shows the double doors from inside. (This is interesting if you are a shed enthusiast ! )
Points to note are the framed, ledged and braced doors: this means that the doors are cross braced so they won't move out of square and that the edges are all reinforced.
The other point to note in the picture are the angled braces in the sections to each side of the door ... without these the front of the building would go out of square and the doors wouldn't open properly. A simple precaution you would think but one which isn't featured on many competitors buildings.
Decked Verandah
This is a handy option for temporary storage of pretty much anything that needs to be out of the rain. Furniture, BBQ, toys, logs ... whatever you need to protect.
Or maybe you could just sit there with a cup of tea on a typical British summer day and watch the rain !
The verandah floor is decked boarding so it drains without a problem.
Joinery made windows
We refer to 'joinery made windows' elsewhere in this website without really explaining what it means. These windows are properly jointed at the corners ( rather than butt jointed ) which makes them extremely sturdy and resistant to twisting and warping. They are constructed using a moulded edging section which is more attractive than conventional finishes.
Roof overhang
The roof overhangs the front of the shed by around 18 inches to give protection to the doors and to help keep you dry when locking up ! If you haven't got space to accommodate this there's no need to worry, the Stanford shed can be made without the overhang if you prefer.
Eaves overhang
Solid and sturdy construction features allow us to provide an overhang at the eaves of the building protecting the shed walls and windows from the worst of the weather.
Pressure treated floor
The Stanford shed has a long lasting pressure treated floor with pressure treated closely spaced support joists.
Roof construction
The Stanford shed has fully framed roof components which add strength and stability to the whole structure. The panels are fixed together and then further strengthened by the use of roof trusses at appropriate distances apart depending on the size of the shed.
Felt roof tiles
Black, red or green bituminous felt roof tiles are available with all Stanford sheds. They are hardwearing, attractive and functional too.
Slatted overlap roof
The Stanford shed roof can have pressure treated slats for an extra touch of style at an additional cost. These are laid over a felted inner roof which ensures that it is double weatherproofed!
Cedar slatted roofs are available too. Other options include felt tiles or cedar shingles.
Workbench for Stanford
Illustrated here is the workbench available as an option with Malvern Stanford sheds. Sturdily built ( in this case in pressure treated timber ), the workbench allows you to maximise the use of your shed from day one !
Workbench for Stanford
Illustrated here is the workbench available as an option with Malvern Stanford sheds. Sturdily built ( in this case in preservative treated deal ), the workbench allows you to maximise the use of your shed from day one !
Also well illustrated in this picture is the pressure treated floor which comes as standard with every Stanford. This is a heavy duty floor with pressure treated joists too and guarantees a long life ( providing of course that the building is installed on a suitable base).
Lockable casement stays
Lockable casement stays are a security feature on all Stanford models.
Shown here on the pressure treated Stanford.
T&G pine lining and insulation
Another useful option with the Stanford is the uFoil insulation and tongued and grooved internal lining. This makes your Stanford a true hobby room or studio with the additional protection this gives.
The picture shows the intersection of the walls and roof and some detail around the roof truss.
The UFoil insulation is in the cavity between the walls.
Cottage style windows
Cottage style windows are an option with all Stanford sheds, whether painted or not !
All Stanford windows are glazed with toughened safety glass including these small pane Cottage Style windows.
Antique style handles and security hinges
This white door on a painted Stanford gives a good background to show off the antique style handles and 3 hinges which are fitted on all Stanfords, whether painted or not !
Look carefully and you'll see that the hinges are bolted as well as screwed in place to help prevent break-ins.
